Setting up FarPlay
I’m so excited to make music with you using FarPlay!
You’ll need two items:
- Connect your computer directly to your router with an Ethernet cable (https://a.co/d/cSdGxZ4). If your computer doesn’t have an Ethernet port, use an Ethernet adapter (USB-C Ethernet adapter (https://a.co/d/aNwCvZX) or USB-A Ethernet adapter (https://a.co/d/en1Fzpl)). Don't plug into a wireless extender router or Powerline adpater. It’s totally fine to use a long Ethernet cable (Ethernet cables are designed to be 300 feet in length without signal degradation). Turn off Wi-Fi on your computer.
-
Make sure you use wired headphones, preferably with an external mic. If you have the Apple EarPods (https://a.co/d/4agNOHQ) that used to come with iPhones, those are great and include an external mic! If you don't have headphones, the Logitech h111 headset (https://a.co/d/7MetgEJ) is $12-$15 on Amazon.
If you're using Windows, we might find out when we first meet that there's too much delay in the audio and that a special audio interface will be needed. The entry-level model is the $80 PreSonus Revelator io44 (https://a.co/d/abT9qWP). If you'd like to have a nice mic and audio interface in an all-in-one unit, I recommend the $100 PreSonus Revelator USB Condenser Microphone (https://a.co/d/erTWToq).
Please work through FarPlay's quickstart instructions (https://farplay.io/quickstart/). You can do all the steps in the section labeled Step One: Get Ready at that page before we meet.
